Hyperopic Planning: A How-To Guide to Expanding Your “Success Muscle”
Hey!!!!
It’s good to be back in my hometown of Chicago.
It’s so nice to get organized and have that higher level of productivity again, yet I’m a little bit salty because I thought I was tricking the system by heading to Thailand for the month of January and beating the cold here.
Yet, low and behold, I get home and the Polar Vortex has still enveloped Chicago, and it’s a balmy -20 again with the wind chill.
And I’ve been completely jetlagged from all the traveling, yet it was a fun trip home, as I was able to hang out with a good friend in the cock pit of the airplane on both legs of the trip from Bangkok and into the US…
And as I sat their in the cockpit, I thought to myself “there’s got to be a self development concept I can pull out of this…”
Now I have my pilot’s license, just flying little 2 seaters in VFR conditions, and I remember hearing about how the autopilot on airplanes work and thinking, ‘well, most of commercial flying is just the take off and landing, and in between you set the autopilot and sit back and relax.
But there’s so much more that’s going on during the flight that the average flyer would never think about.
It’s like a chess game where you are always thinking 5 steps ahead.
Sure, they’re planning the best route to get from point A to B, what the weather conditions are like at the destination airport, how much fuel to put on board, and finding an altitude that has the least turbulence…
But almost MORE time is spent looking at alternative plans, they don’t determine how much fuel needs to be on board to land, they think about how much would be needed if they have to do a go around because of something happening at the destination airport, they’re planning what time they need to be at the destination airport to guarantee their passengers don’t miss their connections…
And it made me think of how most people plan their own life.
Most people don’t even think about planning from A to B, where they’re at and what is needed to reach their goal, their just trying to get through the day!
